描述
Until recently my win10 guest with raw disk on a dual boot system worked fine. Since 2.8.16 it still boots fine but when the login screen appears, the display is totally distorted (see attachment). Also after logging in blindly the problem is not solved. Booting Win 10 to safe mode works fine. Removing and re-installing VBox Extensions did not help.

I'm sorry, with 2.8.16 I meant the date 2nd of August 2016, not the version of vbox.

Any change if you disable 3D support for this VM? You say that removing the Guest Additions (I hope you mean the Guest Additions, not the Extension Pack!) + re-installing it does not help. So what happens if you uninstall the Guest Additions, do you have a working display?
You mentioned that you are using dual boot with raw disk access. To be honest we don't test such configurations. If you boot a Windows guest which also runs on bare metal then the installation contains a lot of drivers which are not required to run inside VirtualBox.

No, unfortunately no change when disabling 2D or 3D acceleration. Yes, I Meant the Guest Additions. When they're not installed, Windows uses a default VGA driver and then it works fine - but obviously the resolution is very limited. As soon as the additions are installed again (even without reboot), the display becomes distorted.
Yep, I understand. Maybe a Windows update caused the trouble. If nobody else joins with "I've got the same problem", then it's likely that it works if Win 10 is on a separate virtual disk. Will test it when I find some time.

The problem was resolved by uninstalling VBox Guest Additions again and then manually delete all files/directories and all registry entries in the virtual machine which belonged to "VirtualBox". After a reboot, the latest version (5.1.4) of VBox Additions were installed and the display worked. There must have been some residual entries from a previous version which interfered with the current one. The ticket can be closed.
