usb device crashes virtual box

when usb device connected to host pc, virtual box detects it, but cannot use it due to an error. this leaves device unusable on both host and guest pc. usually the program detects a connected device and makes windows install driver for it, this installation fails. on the rare occasion when the device works, it causes the virtual box to crash and freeze, requiring reboot of pc and possible destruction of virtual machine files due to corruption by forcing closure of the application. this could be due to an incompatible drivers with windows 7.
