Alsa crash resurfaced with Ubuntu Gutsy and Virtual Box 1.5.2

Hi There -

I am using VirtualBox 1.5.2 and i notice that alsa causes problems after I start VirtualBox. Even after killing virtualbox none of my other programs (amarok etc) which want alsa work.

Steps to reproduce -

1. Start virtual box Windows XP Guest with audio enabled using ALSA.
2. Shutdown windows xp guest.
3. Start amarok - amarok never starts but hangs.
4. Start gnome sound settings and click on 'Test' and it hangs.
5. Start Rhythmbox and play a song, it hangs.

Please let me know how I can further help, which log files I should attach etc.

please could you start VBox again, stop it and play an arbitrary file with strace:

strace -f -o ~/aplay.log -s256 aplay /usr/share/sounds/question.wav

and attach the resulting file aplay.log here?
